The Temple Library has over 900 books covering a wide range of topics: Hindu scriptures; epics and legends; devotional literature; spiritual writings and sayings of great Indians; biographies; yoga; history; and culture of India. There are over 200 books for children. Most of the books are in English, but there also several books in Indian languages. Among the noteworthy items in our collection are editions of all the four Vedas (in the Sanskrit original with English translations), the complete works of Sankaracharya and Vivekananda, almost all the publications of the Chinmaya Mission, and many books of general interest (e.g. all the novels of R.K. Narayan). A complete listing of the books is available on-line.
The Library also has video tapes of Shri Krishna, Mahabharat, Ramayan, and Luv-Kush (all in Hindi), Shrimad Bhagawat Katha (in Gujarathi), and the BhagavadGita lectures (in English) of Swami Chinmayananda. There are DVD sets of Chanakya, Shri Krishna, Mahabharat, and Ramayan. There are also several CDs and audio cassettes.
The library is open whenever the Temple is open . Keys to the library cabinets are available from the priests. Books can be checked out free of charge for up to a month. Videos and DVDs can be rented for a week for a charge of $ 2 per tape and $5 per DVD, respectively. There is a drop-off box in the Temple lobby where books and tapes can be returned. Please contact the librarian, Narendra Patel, at 517-347-2740 (home) for all enquiries and suggestions about the library.
